Torrance Finds Work-Life Balance, Confidence In Painting Business

Marketing for Painters

In Italy, Torrance and His Son Shane Are Pictured After the Italy International Cup Soccer Tournament – It Was a Father-Son Memory He Wanted to Make!

Torrance is atypical when it comes to running a painting company because he has never painted! He’s also different for one simple reason: He implements APPC strategies exceptionally FAST! He’s been running his business for 14 years, is 47 years old, and is married to Jennifer with two sons – Curtis (11) and Shane (14).

Recently, Torrance and I got together for a little Q & A and it was inspiring as always.

Q: What do you do in your free time, Torrance?

A: Our sons are involved in soccer, and we recently got back from Italy for an International Cup Tournament. We’re originally from the islands, so we get to the beach often. We love the outdoors and spending time together.

Q: What originally sent you “on the hunt” for knowledge on growing your painting business?

A: I had a goal of getting to $1 Million in sales and I knew I would fall short if something didn’t change. It was a long search and I implemented a lot of things that didn’t work before finding the APPC and your strategies. There are lots of quick fixes out there, but nothing comprehensive.

Q: You’re too kind bud. What’s changed since you enrolled in the One-on-One Mentoring Program?

A. There’s a lot more accountability and that moves me to take action. I have a lot of confidence getting to work directly with the man in charge. I know if I mess up initially, I can get a second opinion and make changes before I implement the tools and strategies.

Q: What are you working on over the next 30-90 days, Torrance? What are you tackling?

A: Actually, I’m going back through all the modules one-by-one and making sure we have everything 100% implemented.

I’ve hired a new assistant and we’ll have the pre-positioning and post-positioning strategies in the PowerPaint Presentation Process™ completed.

Recruitment is a big deal right now, so we’re working through that module and preparing to use the $100,000 Trade Show Marketing Toolkit for an upcoming home show. Those are the big three initiatives for us right now.

Q: If you could give some advice to a painter who was struggling in his business or who seemed overwhelmed, what advice would you give them?

A: First, have a plan and do your research before you run out and spend your last $10,000 on some strategy that will not work for you. Brandon, a lot of painters grew up poor like me and you and planning wasn’t something they were taught.

Second, do a little at a time. But, do something!

Q: Is there anything else you want to tell readers?

A: The mentoring program, the entire APPC, it has been as good as gold to me. That’s how I see it. It has given me a lot of hope and renewed belief in being able to put aside for retirement and my future. I see it good as gold!

“Our first campaign reached $60,041.98! That's a huge percentage of our annual sales! You don't pick the peach orchard just one time. Different peaches ripen every day. Thanks for encouraging us to keep after it!”

“15 requests for quotes and closed and/or completed $23,000 of work and I still have a few more to do. Conservatively this campaign will net $25,000 in found money in the first 45 days! Thanks Brandon!”

“This year has been the biggest year of growth for us. We're double where we were last year. I realized the real money in this business is in the marketing of the services - not the doing of the services.”
